Social Media Knowledge in Retail

Salespeople now and in the future need to be educated on how best to utilize these new social platforms to the best of their ability to benefit their companies. Educational requirements of salespeople in the future will be much in regards to social media knowledge. Social technology has created social media platforms that are engaging and attracting new customers, this is a step in getting new customers into the sales funnel. This is a vital step in the sales process, it is a systematic approach to developing a non-buying contract into a customer purchasing a product.

In retail, specifically, salespeople need to be up to date on the recent posts their companies have made online. Customers coming in to shop are more than likely up to date on what the company previously posted. They may solely be coming in based off a social media post they recently saw. Whether this may not be as prominent now, it surely will be in the next year at least.

I have worked in retail since I was 16, yes I am only 21, but I have a handful of experience in dealing with retail. I love retail, but you need to be educated on the company you are working for to help bring it success. I follow not only my employing companies social media pages, but other brands as well. I find it intriguing to stay up to date and seethe latest styles and looks the company comes out with online. Many customers have come in specifically asking for, "the outfit on instagram".

Now imagine the salesperson having no knowledge of what that "outfit on instagram" could be. This creates an awkwardness between customer and salesperson, urging the customer to re-evaluate the salespersons knowledge.
